Fordsville Pellet Company: Brand Identity

A ground-up brand identity for a family-owned Kentucky pellet company built to compete with national brands on the shelf and earn trust before the bag is ever opened.

The Challenge

Building a Brand from Nothing in a Market That Doesn't Give Newcomers a Pass

When Fordsville Pellet Company came to us, they weren't on any shelf yet. A family-owned Kentucky operation with combat veterans in the ownership group, sustainably sourced hardwood, and a product that could compete at the premium level. What they didn't have was a name anyone recognized or a bag that could hold its own next to Traeger, Bear Mountain, and Pit Boss.

The job: build an entire brand from scratch, premium enough for the BBQ enthusiast, credible enough to earn shelf space on day one.

Our Approach

Starting with the Source

On-Site in Fordsville

Before we sketched a single mark, we went to Fordsville. What we found was a story most pellet brands would kill for: 100% natural Kentucky hardwood, no additives, no fillers, processed by a family operation with deep roots in the community.

Defining the Brand DNA

Quality. Family-owned. Timeless. The audience: rugged, outdoors-oriented, the kind of person who cares what goes into their smoker. The visual language pulled from Americana, wood grain, and vintage type. A brand that communicates permanence.

"There was a wide-open lane for a brand that felt genuinely American, genuinely family-owned, and genuinely premium without trying too hard to prove it."

The Work

Logo, Packaging & Brand System

A single flame icon. A single typographic system. A consistent voice that could scale from a 40-pound bag of hickory BBQ pellets to a pallet of heating fuel without losing its character.

A

Heating Pellet Bag

A warm, natural palette built around kraft tones and gold accents. The flame icon is rendered in pellet texture, connecting the visual identity directly to the product inside. Premium but approachable.

B

Premium BBQ Bag

A bold black-and-red system with the flame icon filled with real pellet photography. Designed to stop a customer in the aisle. 100% natural hardwood. No additives. Sustainably sourced. Every claim on the front.

C

Flavor-Forward BBQ Bag

A full red field with the flame icon and pellet fill, designed for flavor-specific SKUs. Maximizes shelf impact and brand recognition across a full line of flavor varieties.

The Logo

A flame icon bold enough to read from ten feet and refined enough for a business card. "FORDSVILLE" leads the wordmark because the town is the brand's strongest asset, with a "Kentucky Made / Family Owned" badge backing up the provenance.

The Result

A brand that looks like it's been there for decades.

Fordsville Pellet launched with credibility built in. The BBQ line competes visually at the premium price point, and the heating line brings the same quality signals to a segment where packaging is usually an afterthought.

Perspective

The Power of Origin

The pellet aisle is dominated by corporate brands wearing outdoorsy costumes.

The name on the bag is the name of the town.

Fordsville Pellet doesn't have to pretend. The family that owns it lives there. Some of them served their country before they built the business. That's the actual story.

Earned trust, not manufactured credibility.

No flags wrapped around everything. No forced military iconography. Just a clean, confident, American-made brand that lets the product and the provenance speak for themselves.

Tanner+West flag

A great product deserves a brand that proves it before anyone opens the bag.

If you're building something real and need a brand identity that earns trust from the shelf, we should talk. We don't decorate businesses. We define them.
