Boardwalk Pipelines: “The Spirit of Bluegrass”

A sponsorship film that brings Boardwalk Pipelines' support for bluegrass to life through a simple idea: music shines brighter when people come together.

The Challenge

Make Support Something People Can Feel.

Boardwalk Pipelines supports ROMP and the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum. That relationship gave us an opportunity to tell a story about the shared effort behind a living musical tradition.

We built the film around a question: how do you make the meaning of that support visible? The answer came from bluegrass itself. Individual musicians, each contributing something essential, creating a fuller experience together.

Our Approach

One Light. A Growing Connection.

Let the Scene Build the Story

The film opens in a dark field. A single hanging bulb reveals a guitarist. As the scene unfolds, more light and more musicians enter the picture, bringing guitar, banjo, upright bass, and fiddle together in a shared performance.

The expanding ensemble gives the film its narrative. What begins with one performer becomes a gathering, with each addition changing the scene.

Give the Closing Line a Visual Meaning

The lights connect the performers across the field, creating a warm, inviting space around the music. By the time the closing message appears, the audience has watched its idea take shape.

Boardwalk's sponsorship becomes part of that idea: contributing to something people can experience together and helping a musical tradition continue to shine.

“Together, the spirit of bluegrass music shines bright.”

Production

An Open Field. Four Musicians. A Gradual Reveal.

The original storyboards established the film's visual progression: a suspended bulb, a solitary musician, then an ensemble gathered in the light. The finished film develops that concept through carefully staged reveals and an intimate view of the performance.

01

Build a World Around the Music

Tall grasses, an open sky, and hanging filament bulbs give the performance a distinctive setting. The warm light draws the musicians out of the surrounding darkness, while the wide compositions show the gathering becoming complete.

The setting feels intimate even in an open landscape. It gives the viewer a place close to the music.

02

Bring the Viewer into the Performance

Close views of fingers on strings, a moving bow, and the musicians' expressions bring attention to the work of playing. Wider shots return to the relationship between the performers, showing how those individual contributions belong together.

The Result

A Sponsorship Message with a Story Behind It.

A 60-second film that connects Boardwalk Pipelines with the collaborative spirit of bluegrass. The final sponsorship message identifies its support for ROMP and the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum, giving the performance a clear connection to the brand.

Craft

Make the Idea Visible.

Light Carries the Narrative

The hanging bulbs give the film a recognizable visual motif. Their growing presence guides the viewer from a solitary performer to a shared experience, preparing the audience for the words “shines bright.”

Keep the Musicians at the Center

The film gives time and attention to the people making the music. That choice keeps the sponsorship rooted in what Boardwalk is supporting: the performers, the tradition, and the experience of coming together around bluegrass.
