54 Pizza: Brand Identity

A complete brand identity for Owensboro's iconic pizza parlor, built from the ground up to feel as familiar as the place itself.

The Challenge

Building a Brand That Could Catch Up to the Restaurant

54 Pizza has been part of Owensboro since 1988. Generations have grown up eating there. The problem wasn't the pizza or the people. It was the brand. The restaurant had more character than its identity was communicating, and every touchpoint, from pizza box to t-shirt, was a missed opportunity.

The brand needed to catch up to the restaurant, not reinvent it. Nostalgic, witty, and unapologetically Owensboro.

Our Approach

Start with the Story

Start with the Story

A full brand foundation process, not to invent a story but to find the one already there. What we found: a place that treats you like family, tells you when you've got sauce on your shirt, and is completely comfortable being exactly what it is. Witty, a little sarcastic, deeply proud of Owensboro.

The Visual Identity

A logo that feels like it always existed: bold nostalgic lettering for the "54," hand-drawn script for "Pizza," and the tagline "Share a Slice of Life" underneath. Multiple lockups, a badge for merch, and a palette of vibrant red, warm beige, and deep brown that matches the warmth of the room.

Typography with Personality

Four typefaces: a bold serif for headlines, an industrial all-caps for subheads, a decorative script for catchphrases, and a clean sans for body copy. Confident, a little playful, always legible.

Brand Elements and Illustration

A full illustration library built around the brand's voice. Pizza slices with sunburst rays. A "Made in Owensboro" bridge lockup. "Clean Plate Club." "Last Slice is for the Winner." "You've Got a Little Sauce on Your Shirt." Every one sounds like something someone at 54 Pizza would actually say.

"That foundation became the filter for every design decision that followed."

The Deliverables

A Complete System

Built to grow with them — new locations, new menu items, new merchandise — without losing the thing that makes people keep coming back.

01

Brand Foundation

Positioning, promise, manifesto, core beliefs, and personality anchors. A clear framework for how the brand sounds and shows up, from social posts to training new employees.

02

Brand Guidelines

Logo usage, full color specs, typography rules, the illustration library, and application examples. Usable by anyone on the team, not just designers.

03

Brand Application

Pizza boxes, custom menus, t-shirts, a neon slice sign, and event banners. Consistent but never repetitive.

The Result

A brand identity that matches the experience of actually being there.

Nostalgic without being stuck in the past. Playful without being childish. It works on a pizza box and a billboard, sounds like the people who make the pizza, and can grow with them without losing the feeling that you've got a seat at their table.
