Television Spot | Brand Film | Glenn Family Services

Between the lines

An obituary holds the facts. The life is in everything it leaves out.

The challenge

A story to tell their story.

Glenn Family Services helps families tell the story of a lifetime. They needed a spot that showed it, without a checklist in sight.

Our producer, David Grinnell, lost his mom when he was 16. He remembered the funeral home as the worst place in the world, with no connection to who she was. So he started with one question: what would he have wanted it to be?

The answer was connection. Ours came with whitewall tires.

Our approach

Sixty years. One red car.

A young soldier drives a red 1953 Ford Sunliner home to the girl who waited. Then the proposal, the first house, the kids. The car is in every chapter, and you barely notice it.

When he's gone, she covers it and holds an old photo. On the day of the funeral, Glenn brings the car back.

The production

A bigger-budget look, made at home.

Multiple generations meant multiple casts, period wardrobe, and hair to match every decade. We held nothing back, and brought in Lesa Miller to get it right.

Owensboro played itself. A farmhouse in Philpot, a home on Frederica Street, English Park, Smothers Park. Friends lent their houses. Our own kids showed up as extras.

The result

People still call about the red car.

A 2018 Regional Emmy. Best Brand Film at the Muse Storytelling Film Festival. Telly and Addy awards along the way.

It changed what we believed we could make, and the kind of work we chased after. Years later, Glenn's phone still rings about the car.

“I was impressed by the way they could produce it in a way that was genuine. It turned out that I wasn't the only one impressed.”

Glenn Taylor, Chairman, Glenn Family Services

The next chapter

Meaningful farewells. Preplanned.

So we kept going. This time the story belongs to the daughter, reading a letter her mother left behind.

Flashbacks from the original spot become her memories. Because Mom planned ahead, all that's left is to remember.

“This life has been a story I could never have written for myself. The love, excitement, and precious moments have all shaped an incredible journey. I want you to treasure this story without any other worries. In you, my heart finds its greatest treasure.”

Love, Mom.
